MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – About 80% of the merchandise Belarus exports is shipped to the Eurasian region, BelTA learned from Svetlana Kondratenko, Deputy Director for Science of the Institute of System Research in Agriculture of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB).

Svetlana Kondratenko said: “In 2022 our country reached a record-high volume of food export - $8.3 billion, 24% up from 2021. Over 80% of Belarusian products are shipped to the Eurasian region. It represents a significant contribution to ensuring not only national but also collective food security.”

She also stressed that Belarus’ export basket is well balanced but is getting rapidly improved taking into account market demands. Belarusian enterprises are expanding their product range, adding more and more products with a high added value, including original cheeses, dairy products, sausages, meat semi-finished products, confectionery made of chocolate and sugar, tinned fruits and vegetables.

In order to secure positions on markets and shop shelves, for instance, in China and the Middle East, it is important to conduct profound marketing analysis of consumer preferences and offer an original Belarusian product that will match local dietary habits. The innovative potential of Belarusian manufacturers plays the decisive role in it. “I’d like to note that the share of innovation-active organizations among Belarusian food producers averaged nearly 30% in 2022, including 57% among manufacturers of chocolate and sugary confectionery products, 50% among manufacturers of baby food and dietary foods, 37% among manufacturers of dairy products, and 29% among manufacturers of fish products. Practice indicates that all kinds of innovations, including the creation of new products, ingredients, processing technologies, models for promoting products on the market, allow manufacturers to secure key competitive advantages and increase profit margins,” Svetlana Kondratenko noted.
