MINSK, 9 May (BelTA) – Aspiration for peace and creation represents the strength and the meaning of the historical way of Belarusians. Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin made the statement during the ceremony to lay wreaths at the Victory Monument in Minsk on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Great Victory, BelTA has learned.
Viktor Khrenin remarked that people had been coming to the monument the entire day. Answering the call of their hearts. They came with families, children and grandchildren.
The official said: “Pobedy Square is traditionally swamped with flowers. It is the least we can do today as we pay tribute to the heroes that saved their nation, stopped genocide, and cleansed Europe from the fascist regime that left the bloodiest trace in history. A tribute to the memory of innocent victims of unthinkably cruel crimes of the 20th century. And as long as the Eternal Fire burns, we will remember. We will take good care of the truth about that war.”
Viktor Khrenin went on saying: “We will remember frontline soldiers, who were wounded and tired and yet they returned and rebuilt scorched cities and villages within a record short period of time. We will always follow their example of genuine eagerness for peace and creation. This is our strength and the meaning of the historical way of Belarusians, who know how to win, create, and protect peace in the native land.”
The defense minister assured that everything will be done so that no one would dare tell Belarusians how they should live in their own land.
“Happy Victory Day! I wish us peace, happiness and good, clear sky over native Belarus!” Viktor Khrenin said.
