MINSK, 20 June (BelTA) - Belarusian athletes won 134, including 26 gold medals at BRICS Games 2024, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko said at a joint session of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus on 20 June, BelTA has learned.
“The work carried out at all levels to return our athletes to international competitions has already resulted in Belarusian athletes’ admission to international competitions in 32 sports. Having returned to the world arena, our athletes have confirmed their top class, winning medals at the world championships in boxing, wrestling, swimming, taekwondo, and weightlifting. Our athletes have also demonstrated great results at the BRICS Games that are currently underway, featuring about 90 countries. Belarusians have so far won 134, including 26 gold, medals,” Igor Petrishenko said.
Belarusian athletes have been systematically training for the Paris Olympic Games 2024, the deputy prime minister said. “Candidates for participation in this large-scale sporting event are provided with everything necessary, including medical and pharmacological support. 31 athletes in 11 sports have qualified for the Paris Games. Several more athletes still have chances to qualify for the Games,” the deputy prime minister added.
