Services sector seen as GDP growth driver in Belarus
MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) - The services sector should be the GDP growth driver in Belarus, First Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Turchin in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel on 26 August, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian president has set forth a big task, namely to ensure the GDP in the amount of $100 billion by 2025. The growth drivers, according to Alexander Turchin, are the services sector, primarily the IT sector, and also the transport and logistics industry.
As for IT, Alexander Turchin stressed the importance of presidential ordinance No. 8 for the development of this industry. The Hi-Tech Park reported a big increase in the services export in the first half of 2018. But the effect is not only in the increase of the export of services but also in the significant increase in the number of the HTP resident companies.
According to the first vice premier, following the president’s decision, forwarders have been exempted from the recycling fee on the import of Euro-6 trucks this year.
Alexander Turchin added that plans are in place to discuss with the business community the issues which need to be regulated in order to remove barriers in boosting the volume of the corresponding services.
