DOHA, 30 October (BelTA) – A number of proposals to deepen investment cooperation between Belarus and Qatar were made during the official visit of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to the State of Qatar, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told media, BelTA has learned.
“The talks focused, first of all, on investment cooperation. Belarus has made a number of proposals to the Qatari authorities. These proposals will be studied in the near future. A Qatari delegation plans to visit Belarus soon to discuss the possibility of promoting our investment cooperation,” the minister said.
He stressed that the proposals were about mutually beneficial projects. The parties also discussed the prospects for improving industrial cooperation. “There are good prospects of setting up joint companies in Belarus with the participation of the Qatari capital and the export of the goods that Qatar needs,” said Vladimir Makei.
In his words, the leaders of the two countries also shared opinions on the situation in the region, with both the states supporting peace and stability. “The exchange of opinions on the development of the international situation was very important and useful. We have no disagreements in what concerns the recent developments in the international relations and the world policy,” the minister said.
“The visit was important. The two countries reached agreements on a number of issues that the parties needed to get moving. Since Belarus, Qatar and some other countries of the Gulf are member states of the Non-Aligned Movement, we should use this opportunity to further boost the trade, investment and political cooperation and the interaction in other avenues of mutual interest,” said Vladimir Makei.
He added that the Belarusian head of state has recently made a lot of foreign visits. “This fully meets the strategy that the President outlined some time ago, which is the diversification of foreign political and economic relations,” the minister said.
