MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – People’s unity is a key condition for genuine sovereignty of the state. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement in his Address to the nation and the parliament on 31 March, BelTA has learned.
Speaking about the key conditions that ensure real sovereignty of the state and about what else everyone should do together in order to stop anyone but friends from entering the country, the president stressed that people’s unity is one of the most important conditions of sovereignty and independence. “We, Belarusians have always demonstrated it at crucial moments of history. It was unity that gave us strength to prevail over enemies and circumstances,” he stated.
According to the head of state, it happened during the troubled years shortly after the October Revolution when the Belarusian nation did not miss the chance of creating the foundation of national statehood. It happened in 1939 when historically Belarusian lands were reunited. It would have been impossible without the desire of Belarusians to live as one family.
It happened during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 when invaders faced a truly nationwide resistance movement, which had been unprecedented in the history of the world. “Who stood with us shoulder to shoulder in forests and swamps back then? Our Slavs, our Russian people. This is why we stand with them today,” Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked.
“In the difficult years after the war, in the wicked 1990s, in periods of world crises and the pandemic Belarusians were always united in the face of difficulties and challenges. I heard you, you heard me. Together all of us survived the onslaught of liberal models. We pulled the country away from ruins, away from an abyss. We preserved the continuity of historical ages and traditions,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “And we made all the strategic decisions on our own despite accusations that someone had been in control of us. We made the decisions with an overwhelming majority at referendums and elections. We supported the political course of the country that we’ve been following for nearly three decades now. Our majority prevailed in 2020. It is obvious even for those, who controlled that barbaric blitzkrieg. Truth be told, it is time they acknowledged their defeat publicly.”
