MINSK, 15 August (BelTA) - Youth plays a special role in the work to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, Vice Speaker of the Council of the Republic, National Coordinator for SDGs Marianna Shchetkina said at the forum “Innovations from teenagers and young people for the Sustainable Development Goals” in the Zubrenok children's center, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of Belarusian Parliament.
The forum was attended by 150 teenagers and young people. They presented their ideas and projects to achieve the SDGs in various fields, including environmental protection, healthy lifestyle, quality education. A roundtable brought together youth SDGs ambassadors.
Marianna Shchetkina thanked all for their active participation in the forum. “We want to hear the opinion of the young and to identify themes and the areas that we will work on together. Since young people take an interest in these questions then the work will be interesting too,” she said.
Belarus is involving young people in the work to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals at various levels. “It is important to raise awareness of young people, schools, and preschools about the Sustainable Development Goals. Because young people are our future,” Marianna Shchetkina noted.
The forum has been organized as part of the UNDP/UNICEF/UNFPA project to support the SDGs architecture in Belarus with the participation of the National Coordinator for SDGs Marianna Shchetkina, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Education Ministry.
