MINSK, 6 October (BelTA) – As a sovereign state, Belarus should defend its vision of ways of development, including the development of democratic and legal institutions. This is why we should respond to any attempts of external interference, thwart them and point out our opponent’s faults and mistakes to make them understand that they can dictate anything to anyone, researcher at the Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, political analyst Aleksei Dzermant said in an interview to the SB. Belarus Segodnya newspaper, BelTA has learned.
“The policy of force, pressure and sanctions has not become a thing of the past. It is alive and kicking. We are witnesses to it. Unfortunately, this policy is here to stay until there emerges another superpower that will not allow one of the players (I mean the West) force on us its opinion about the right domestic policy, human rights, and so on. Unfortunately, we see that the West does not want to give up its monopoly and wants to continue imposing its vision. This is why I think that we are facing a stage of confrontation. God forbid that it should be heated, because this might result in something totally unexpected. Let this stop at exchanging diplomatic memos, although they are getting more and more abrasive,” the analyst said.
Aleksei Dzermant also spoke about the escalation of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, saying that the situation is in the Caucasian region is very complicated. “Any color revolution, including the events in Armenia, any transition of power in an unconstitutional way weakens a country in general. Others take advantage of this. I do not want to point out who is right or wrong in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, because it is important to settle it. At the same time, we are witnessing that any moment of weakness amid external pressure from the neighboring countries is immediately exploited. The viruses of disruption and division of the society exist in any country, including Belarus. To my mind, we have fought them all off, which proves the stability of our country. This does not mean that we have inactivated all these causes-viruses. We should not relax in the current times. Unfortunately, threats will not just disappear,” he noted.
