MINSK, 8 September (BelTA) – At the request of the media, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on a large-scale detainee swap between Russia and Ukraine that took place on 7 September, BelTA has learned.
“This is a significant step forward, a contribution to a noble goal. We are sincerely happy with the news. People will reunite with their loved ones. What can be more important?” said Anatoly Glaz, Head of the Information and Digital Diplomacy Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In his words, the humanitarian process has finally moved forward and the parties have reached a direct agreement on the exchange. “We believe this is great progress, a concrete step, the implementation of an important article of the Minsk agreements. We very much welcome it,” the official representative of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
“Yes, this is the first step. It is always hard to do it. The Belarusian president has always stressed the need for sincere interest of all the parties in settling the situation. We understand that today we can move the process from the dead point only if we start with small steps. We hope that this positive movement will continue and eventually lead to the main result - peace! Belarus has done and will continue to do everything in its power for this purpose,” Anatoly Glaz added.
