MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko held a working meeting with President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus Viktor Lukashenko on 8 June, BelTA has learned.
The head of state asked about the general state of affairs in the country's sport sector. The president emphasized the need to promote sport in Belarus and organize mass sporting events in the country's regions.
“I am keeping an eye on the events you are holding together with the local authorities. You are doing well. The events are popular with people,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. He highlighted the Vytoki cultural and sport festival, which had recently been held in Orsha. The festival has already been hosted by Lida and is due in Kobrin, Mozyr, Bobruisk and Zhodino.
“We need to bring such events to the towns we have overlooked. In the future we will consider holding other types of events there,” the president stressed.
The president also took interest in the preparations for the forthcoming Summer Olympics in Tokyo. According to Viktor Lukashenko, a total of 98 Belarusians have qualified for the Games so far. Belarus will name the national roster for the Olympic Games in the near future.
The meeting also discussed other issues, including the projects that Viktor Lukashenko had supervised before he was elected president of the National Olympic Committee. According to the head of state, it is necessary to keep track of them until they are completed. The head of state also suggested continuing the interaction with the special forces units, which Viktor Lukashenko had supervised in the capacity of President’s Aide on National Security. The matter is about the needs of families of military personnel and other matters that, if necessary, should be kept on the radar.
