MINSK, 9 June (BelTA) – Ecuador is interested in long-term multifaceted cooperation with Belarus, Maria Soledad Buendia, a member of the National Assembly of Ecuador, told BelTA summing up the results of the meetings in Minsk.
“The interest is evident, including if we consider the fruitful visits of senior Ecuadorian officials to Belarus, and the mutual complementarity of our economies. We have many things to offer to each other. We should use this opportunity and find cooperation mechanisms that would be mutually beneficial and would improve the well-being of the people of Belarus and Ecuador,” Maria Soledad Buendia noted.
During their visit to Minsk, Ecuadorian MPs had meetings at the Education Ministry, the Agriculture and Food Ministry, and the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus. A new friendship group for cooperation with Belarus has recently been set up in the newly elected National Assembly of Ecuador. The group is set to intensify the cooperation with their Belarusian colleagues. Maria Soledad Buendia noted that the support that Ecuador showed for Belarus’ application for an observer status in the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino) is a good example of the bilateral interparliamentary cooperation.
“The main objective of our friendship group is to strengthen the relations with Belarus, ensure implementation of the previously reached agreements, and establish an effective ongoing dialogue on a wide range of cooperation areas, from economy and culture to sports and education,” Maria Soledad Buendia explained.
She said that the people of Ecuador are grateful to the Belarusian government and people for the humanitarian aid provided after the April 2016 earthquake that claimed many lives and caused considerable economic damage to the country.
