“We enjoy close cooperation in the cultural area and it is very important. We have constructive economic relations with Belarus and hold an intensive political dialogue. We also have well-developed tourist ties, partner relations between Belarusian and Latvian self-administrations. Vitebsk Oblast accounts for the biggest part of Belarusian partners. The Latvian Consulate is situated in Vitebsk and it comes as so surprise that the events to mark Latvia’s Day are annually held in this city,” the diplomat said.

The exhibition in the Marc Chagall Art center opened with a moment of silence to honor the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris.

The exposition in Vitebsk represents one of the stages in the implementation of a big international project during which Latvian artists have already visited a number of countries to write local landscapes. The exposition features the views of Riga, Washington, New York, Hong Kong, Venice, Paris and other cities.

The joint exhibition of Rector of the Latvian Art Academy Alexei Naumov and Pro-Rector Professor Kristaps Zarins “Cities of the World” is presented by the Latvian Consulate in Vitebsk and the Latvian Embassy in Belarus. The exhibition marks the 97^th anniversary of Proclamation Day of the Republic of Latvia. The exposition will run through 13 December.

Apart from that, an exposition of the works of Latvian artist, famous illustrator of children’s books Anita Paegle opened in the Vitebsk Oblast Library on 16 November.
