MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – The state counts on scientists a lot. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement during the ceremony held on 26 January to award diplomas to doctors of science and professor certificates to scientists and pedagogues, BelTA has learned.
“I want you to understand that the country’s future is in your hands today,” said the President. Alexander Lukashenko also underscored: “We don’t have geopolitical ambitions. Saving this piece of land is the most important thing for us. All the resulting problems lie, curiously enough, in the sphere of economy. Our economy is absolutely open. And we need to preserve it against tough competition. And you cannot have competition without science.”
The head of state pointed out that at present Belarusian technologies and products are in demand but it is necessary to look ahead and move on, expanding the target markets. Alexander Lukashenko mentioned his recent visits to Egypt and Sudan, which primary purpose was to sell more Belarusian products and technologies to these countries. Alexander Lukashenko explained that there are excellent opportunities for exporting Belarusian technologies and products as well as the best practices to African countries. These opportunities should be explored more actively in order not to miss the right moment.
“We have technologies and they are in demand today. But different and new technologies will be needed tomorrow. We will not be able to accomplish anything domestically or on foreign markets without science. This is why we want scientists to live up to such high requirements,” stressed Alexander Lukashenko.
