Lukashenko declares love of Belarusian nation in temple on Christmas

LOGOISK, 7 January (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko declared his love of the Belarusian people as he visited a church in Logoisk, Minsk Oblast on Orthodox Christmas, 7 January, BelTA has learned.

The head of state made quite a lengthy speech, during which he wished everyone a Happy Christmas, good health and happiness. He also spoke about the complicated situation around the country, emerging challenges, tasks for the foreseeable future, and matters of a fair social policy.

The archpriest Vladimir, who is in charge of the temple of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker that the head of state came to on Christmas, thanked Aleksandr Lukashenko for the kind words: “Lips speak due to the fullness of the heart. We’ve heard you express concern from the bottom of your heart and at the same time we’ve heard you declare love for all of us, for our Belarusian nation.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “I love my nation and it is my peculiarity. Forgive my immodesty but it is my love for my people, who stand in front of me. 30 years ago I swore that I will serve my people and that’s what I do. However complicated it may be for me. All kinds of things have happened. We have not committed blunt errors. We’ve been treading on thin ice but we have never broken the ice and have never fallen into this bitterly cold water. It is our key accomplishment.”
