MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) - The Belarusian economy is doing well despite huge pressure from unfriendly countries, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he was hearing a report on the performance of the banking system and measures to bolster foreign trade, BelTA has learned.
The head of state noted that the National Bank was fulfilling its functions. “According to the performance over the past year, the country’s economy is coping well despite the pressure from Western unfriendly states. This means that the government and the National Bank are coping as well. This does not mean however that there are no problems in this respect. We will discuss all the existing problems in an open and honest manner, without putting the blame on others,” the Belarusian leader said.
The head of state mentioned the need to assist business entities in making settlements with foreign partners. “We seem to be dealing with sanctions well. Everything seems to be fine. But, as Russia has recognized it as well, we still feel the pressure from the United States in the first place. This pressure concerns business entities’ settlements. I have said many times to you and the government that we need to help economic entities, do what we can. We need to do it calmly, without any noise. I would like to know (this is a question for both the government and the President Administration) whether these functions are being performed. I also wonder if the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Bank are involved in these matters,” Aleksandr Lukashenko asked.
