BAKU, 16 May (BelTA) – Belarus can lend a helping hand to Azerbaijan like no one else in the world, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told reporters following negotiations with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on 16 May, BelTA has learned.
“Azerbaijan has achieved a lot in recent years, most of all, by resolving its main problem (the return of lands that simply had been turning into a desert for a long time),” noted Aleksandr Lukashenko. “This is a complicated story. But the lands have been returned, they need to be revived. This task will probably take more time and as much effort,” the president said.
The head of state noted that it is not enough to simply resettle people. It is necessary to create jobs and give people an opportunity to live a decent life, which will take many years.
“The fact that you have reclaimed the lands and are reviving them will have a long-lasting effect. As you are mounting this immense effort to revive these lands, we will be happy to play a part if this benefits you. Moreover, we will do it in a way that no one else in the world will do because of the respect and friendly relations between Belarus and Azerbaijan,” the president said.
