MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – The Commonwealth of Independent States is still in demand. Sergei Lebedev, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary, made the statement after the session of the CIS Heads of Government Council on 28 October, BelTA has learned.

Many of the documents signed on 28 October regulate interaction of the CIS states till 2020. The forecast of production and consumption of energy resources covers the period till 2030.

“Results of the session confirm that the Commonwealth of Independent States looks far ahead. I was glad to hear from the heads of the delegations and during the meeting with the Belarus president that the CIS is still in demand and the fact is confirmed with deeds,” noted Sergei Lebedev.

The CIS member states have come up with a number of measures to further improve the CIS operation. In accordance with the recommendations the CIS heads of state made during the Bishkek summit the agenda of the session held on 28 October was concentrated on the most important matters. Other matters were forwarded for consideration of other CIS agencies.

According to Sergei Lebedev, the decisions made by the CIS Heads of Government Council testify to the broadness of interaction of the member states. “They work together not only in economic affairs but humanitarian ones as well. Besides, a number of financial matters were discussed, including the spending of the money allocated to create and enhance the united CIS air defense system,” explained the official.

A universal budget of the CIS agencies for 2017 was also adopted. The report on executing the year 2016 budget was presented.

The next session of the CIS Heads of Government Council will take place in Russia on 26 May 2016.
