MINSK, 19 July (BelTA) - Relations between Belarus and the European Union have good prospects but disputes will continue, Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkevics told the media after negotiations with Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei in Minsk on 19 July, BelTA has learned.
“I can see the future, but don't expect a breakthrough. There will be many more disputes, many more discussions. And that is normal,” Edgars Rinkevics said.
He noted that a number of issues in the relations between Belarus and the EU cannot be solved as fast as one would hope. “I think that the way we solve those issues gives reason to say that there is progress and it will continue,” the diplomat said.
The Latvian minister noted that Belarus is one of the states that have not signed a bilateral framework agreement with the EU. Much remains to be done in this regard.
