Kupala Night Festival to showcase Belarus’ tourism, economic potential

Kupala Night Festival to showcase Belarus’ tourism, economic potential

MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) – Belarus’ tourism and economic potential will be displayed at the Kupala Night Festival (Alexandria Gathers Friends), Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko said as he attended a meeting of the Kupala Night Festival organizing committee on 14 March, BelTA has learned.

“Since its establishment, the Kupala festival has developed into one of the country’s major cultural venues. Taking into account its achievements, the festival needs to meet the same requirements set for other important cultural forums of the country. The main thing is to continue raising the bar, including in the matters related to infrastructure, finances and cost estimates. As part of the forum we plan to hold a presentation of the economic and tourism capacities of not only Mogilev Oblast but also other regions of Belarus for representatives of diplomatic missions and foreign business. This needs to be discussed together with the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce an Industry,” Igor Petrishenko said.

In his words, the festival’s creativity has distinctive features. “Its main stage has long been an experimental venue for the development of new types of concerts. Today we need to decide on a new concept for a gala concert and see how it will reflect the main theme of the Year of Native Land,” the vice premier said.

The Kupala Night Festival (Alexandria Gathers Friends) will take place on 6-7 July. Its major theme is the Native Land three-year campaign and the 2nd European Games. The event will traditionally include the opening ceremony, concerts, trade fairs, discos and the honoring of the best agricultural workers.

The festival’s main draw will be a gala concert that will feature songs from the new album of For Spiritual Revival awardees Evgeny Oleinik and Yulia Bykova Kutochak Belarusi (Part of Belarus). The show will become a pilot project which the Culture Ministry plans to use as a brand national product in the future to present the Belarusian modern culture during the Days of Culture abroad and other international events. The concert will feature Belarusian singers and folk bands performing 27 songs of Evgeny Oleinik and Yulia Bykova.
