MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) – German citizen Rico Krieger was happy beyond words to learn the news that Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko decided to pardon him. The video of this moment was shown by the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.
Rico Krieger was reminded that his case was studied personally by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko. He was told that the head of state took into account all the circumstances of the situation and decided to grant him a pardon.
Having heard it, Rico Krieger could not hold back tears of joy. “Thank you, Mr. Lukashenko. Thank you for forgiving me. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to see my daughter. I really appreciate it,” he said, overwhelmed with emotions.
Later, when asked how he felt, Rico Krieger said: “Much better, just great.”
When the news sank in, Krieger admitted he was incredibly happy. “My hands are shaking. I can't even write. This is the best moment of my life. Thank you so much,” he said
As it has been reported, on 30 July, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko pardoned German citizen Rico Krieger. Earlier, Krieger filed a clemency petition with the Belarusian head of state.
A reminder, Krieger was found guilty under six articles of the Criminal Code and was sentenced by court to death.
