MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) – Success in space exploration is of great significance for Belarus, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said as she met with Belarus’ first cosmonaut, Hero of Belarus Marina Vasilevskaya on 7 May, BelTA has learned.
Attending the meeting were also members of the Presidium and the Council of Elders of the Council of the Republic.
“Aleksandr Grigoryevich Lukashenko is absolutely right by saying that we have become a space power. Of course, it would be wrong to say that we had not been engaged in space exploration before. We have done a lot for space. Our fellow Belarusians are among those to have already flown into the space, and we take great pride in it,” Natalya Kochanova said.
“However, you are the first to conquer space in the history of sovereign, independent Belarus,” the speaker added. “I believe that reaching such a level in its development is of great importance for our country which is home to such wonderful people. Our people, our young beautiful women are conquering space.”
