MINSK, 27 September (BelTA) – Belarus is a country where you always want to return, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Belarus Askar Beisenbayev told a BelTA correspondent

On 27 September the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research hosted a round table “Kazakhstan and Belarus: The path of friendship and cooperation”.

Kazakhstan and Belarus have gone a long way to establish themselves as reputable members of the international community. Our relations have reached a completely new level. We are friendly nations that support each other and have similar positions on many issues on the international agenda. The peoples of Kazakhstan and Belarus have common history and went through common difficulties. There was a period when the people of Kazakhstan and Belarus were on the verge of extermination. It was during the Great Patriotic War. Our peoples still remember it although it is becoming a more distant past. Even today many people from Kazakhstan come to Belarus to find their relatives who went missing or died here. We thank the Belarusian people for their responsible attitude to history. 2022 was declared the Year of Historical Memory in Belarus. This is very important. You cannot build your future without knowing your history. And the history should not be distorted. Therefore, the efforts of Belarus, namely of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, to preserve historical memory and pass it on to future generations are very important,” Askar Beisenbayev noted.

Belarus is a strong state with a strong leader. The country is consistently developing, has a clear vision of the future and is working to achieve it, the ambassador stressed. “In 2021, the trade between Kazakhstan and Belarus exceeded $1 billion. This is a good result, but we can do much better. We can ramp up cooperation in the manufacturing industry, intensify interregional contacts, set up joint ventures, and also promote cooperation in culture and humanitarian affairs. And, last but not least, I believe that the tourism sector holds a lot of promise, too. Kazakhstan has something to offer to Belarusian tourists. There are beautiful places, there is a huge choice of tourist attractions. And Belarus is a country where you always want to return,” he added.
