MINSK, 26 November (BelTA) – Japan is determined to strengthen cooperation with Belarus, Hiroki Tokunaga said at an official event on 26 November to mark the start of his diplomatic mission in Belarus as Ambassador Extraordinarily and Plenipotentiary of Japan, BelTA has learned.
“This year the Japanese government has taken a decision on a new status for its diplomatic representation in Belarus, which now means under the leadership of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary,” Hiroki Tokunaga said. Thus, the Japanese embassy starts functioning in Minsk. Before, there was a department of the embassy with the main office in Moscow.
“I have spent three years in Minsk as Charge d’Affaires ad Interim of Japan. I am confident that from now on we will have more opportunities to intensify contacts with Belarus,” Hiroki Tokunaga stressed.
He said that receiving the appointment of the ambassador he met with the emperor and prime minister of Japan to discuss further cooperation with Belarus. The head of the diplomatic mission is confident that the Belarusian-Japanese ties would get a new impetus in development.
