STRASBURG, 12 February (BelTA-TASS) – Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CE) Thorbjorn Jagland praised the results of the Normandy Four talks in Minsk that should have secured the withdrawal of heavy weapons from the contact line and a ceasefire regime starting from 15 February.
In his words, today’s agreement gives grounds for an effective ceasefire regime. It is clear, however, that there is still a lot to be done, he said in a statement received by TASS representative office. According to him, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, President of France Francois Hollande, Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko did their best for this to happen.
Thorbjorn Jagland expressed hope that the agreements reached in Minsk would help build up a road for a new political decision through a constitutional reform that will conduct the necessary decentralization with full observance of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
