MINSK, 11 July (BelTA) – The Russian Press Congress in Minsk will bring together the chiefs of Russian-language media outlets from around the world, First Deputy Director General of the Russian news agency TASS Mikhail Gusman told reporters, BelTA has learned.
“The 19th Congress of Russian Press will will gather in Minsk the chiefs of Russian-language media outlets from virtually all around the world,” Mikhail Gusman said. According to him, the World Association of Russian Press (WARP) unites media outlets that are printed in Russian in 80 countries. Minsk will see representatives from more than 50 countries.
“Naturally, we discuss professional issues at our congresses. Given today's technological and other challenges, it's time to talk about the digital revolution in our profession. Tomorrow we will discuss our affairs, the ways the Russian-language press can survive in different countries in such a difficult time. We will share experience and expertise,” Mikhail Gusman said.
Mikhail Gusman also noted that he is very happy to be in Minsk and to participate in such a large-scale event. He expressed confidence that the congress will be a success.
Delegates are arriving in Minsk for the 19th World Congress of Russian Press “Partnership for the future: priorities of modern civilization.” Those who had already arrived laid flowers at the monument in Victory Square. The key event will be the plenary session of the 19th World Congress of Russian Press on 12 July. It will be followed by the opening ceremony, and two breakout sessions “Challenges and opportunities: sovereignty, integration, globalization” and “Mass media in the context of digital revolution”.
The 19th World Congress of Russian Press is organized by the World Association of Russian Press, the Belarusian Information Ministry, and the World Russian Press Foundation. Belarus is hosting the congress for the second time. The first time was in 2013.
