MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) – Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko thanked Germany for the huge contribution to the normalization of relations between Belarus and the EU as he met with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Independence Palace in Minsk on 29 June, BelTA has learned.
Alexander Lukashenko noted that the Belarusians hold the German president in high regard and his present visit to Minsk will have a very serious, positive response in the Belarusian society. “This is not so much a political aspect but a moral, ethical one,” the Belarusian leader said.
“This is not the first time you are visiting Minsk and the Independence Palace. You were one of the authors of the Normandy Four format. It would be wrong if I did not thank you for the enormous contribution you have made to the normalization of relations between the EU and Belarus. We are deeply grateful for this. We remember this. More so, we have implemented everything we talked about with [German Chancellor] Angela Merkel,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
Alexander Lukashenko asked Frank-Walter Steinmeier to convey his best wishes to Angela Merkel on behalf of the Belarusian people.
