VITEBSK, 4 April (BelTA) – Finland’s experience will help form a holistic view of the smart city concept, Aide to the President, Inspector for Vitebsk Oblast Vitaly Vovk told reporters after the presentation of the smart city concept by the example of Finland’s Tampere in the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee, BelTA has learned.

According to Vitaly Vovk, the main purpose of this presentation is to obtain information about real experience in developing a smart city. “We invited experts because we wanted to learn about their mistakes, too. We need to understand where not to go. It is important, because the creation of such a city is a difficult and serious task,” he said.

After the meeting in Vitebsk, Finnish experts will go to Orsha where they will introduce the local authorities to the concept. "Decree No.506 set a clear task to implement a smart city concept in the region. Tampere is a good example of how to achieve this by setting the right task and working hard. Finnish expertise and knowledge will help form a holistic view of what a smart city is," the president’s aide stressed.

The presentation of the smart city concept by the example of Tampere was held at the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee on 4 April. Experts presented the project, its main components, what to begin with and how to take the first steps. Tampere is ranked 4th in the world in terms of the level of the smart city concept development.
