MINSK, 18 October (BelTA) – President of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) Janez Kocijancic spoke at the General Assembly of the Association of the National Olympic Committees (ANOC) in Doha, hailing the 2nd European Games in Minsk as a sport milestone of the year, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian National Olympic Committee.
“The 2nd European Games in Minsk were organized a great deal better than anybody expected and we can be proud of this achievement. Each continent has its large-scale sport forum which should be better integrated into the Olympic framework,” the EOC head said.
The 2nd European Games were held in Minsk on 21-30 June 2019. More than 3,000 athletes took part in the competitions. Eight events were held as qualifiers for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Attending the General Assembly are more than 1,000 delegates of the national Olympic committees, the International Olympic Committee and the organizing committee of the forthcoming Olympic Games.
The National Olympic Committee of the Belarus is represented by Acting First Vice President Viktor Lukashenko and Secretary General George Katulin.
