MINSK, 9 December (BelTA) - Belarus is closely watching the developments in Syria, Press Secretary of the Belarusian president Natalya Eismont said as she commented on the developments in the country at BelTA’s request.

“Indeed, we are closely watching the developments in Syria, although we are not an interested player in the region and are not interfering in internal affairs in any way,” the spokeswoman said.

“The Syrian people have been and remain friendly to Belarus. We have longstanding good relations. This is why we are humanly concerned about the processes taking place there. This is why we advocate the speedy stabilization of the situation in the interests of the well-being of the people. In any acute situations (wherever they occur) Belarus has called and calls for peace. This position of ours remains unchanged,” Natalya Eismont emphasized.
