MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) - Belarus has always been among the rhythmic gymnastics leaders, and we need to retain these positions at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Lyubov Cherkashina, the bronze medalist of the London Olympic Games, the coach of the national rhythmic gymnastics team, told reporters, BelTA has learned.
“We are the leaders in rhythmic gymnastics. It is not only this year but in general. The Belarusian rhythmic gymnastics has a glorious history. We are always in the top, and should keep these positions. Making the first steps is easier mentally. You have less pressure. But when you have a medal history behind you, it is very difficult. I hope the girls will cope with the pressure,” Lyubov Cherkashina said.
The coach of the national team said that the competition rules at the Olympics in Rio have changed: earlier gymnasts had the competitions running for several days. Now the qualifications and finals will take just two days. “Of course, it will be difficult: immediately after qualification the girls will have to compete in the finals. We will see. Maybe the harder, the better. At least, this rule always works for our team,” Lyubov Cherkashina noted.
