MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – Belarus hopes that the participants of the Normandy format meeting in Minsk will reach a consensus on the political regulation of the crisis in eastern Ukraine, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Russia Rudiger von Fritsch told RIA Novosti.
“We hope that Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany will reach a consensus on the political regulation of the situation in eastern Ukraine,” the diplomat said.
Speaking about the regulation of the crisis, the Ambassador said that the Minsk agreement which were supported by Russia and the separatists are absolutely univocal. It is envisaged to elect the representatives of the regions who will be legitimate taking into account the existing Ukrainian legislation. Unfortunately, it has not happened yet, the diplomat added.
The Minsk agreements supported by all the parties provide for not only the ceasefire regime and the withdrawal of heavy troops, but also the efficient control on the Russian-Ukrainian border. We hope that Russia will be ready to allow this international monitoring in accordance with the agreement, the Ambassador said.
Germany and France suggest stepping up efforts to implement the Minsk agreements, the diplomat added.
