MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) – Belarus views the Czech Republic as a reliable and promising partner in every area, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko said at a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Belarus Milan Ekert on 1 June, BelTA has learned.
“We consider Czechia as a reliable and promising partner in every sphere of cooperation, including political, economic and parliamentary dimension. There were different times, we had our ups and downs. Everything changes, however. It is important that recently we have been in a positive dialogue between our foreign political departments. A milestone visit of the Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs to Belarus took place in 2016. We had fruitful talks, discussed many issues, including the establishment of closer contacts at a higher level,” said Vladimir Andreichenko.
In his words, the inter-parliamentary dialogue between the two countries was steadily developing. Friendship groups exchanged regular visits. Vladimir Andreichenko expressed regret that in H2 2016 bilateral contacts went on decline due to the election campaign to the House of Representatives in Belarus. At present a pre-election campaign in underway in the Czech Republic. In March Belarus prepared a draft agreement between the House of Representatives and the Chamber of Deputies in the Czech Republic. The document has been submitted to Czechia. Vladimir Andreichenko believes that the issue will be considered once the elections in the Czech Republic are over.
He expressed readiness to consider Czech proposals to boost cooperation, intensify relations between the parliaments and at the interstate level, including in trade, economic, cultural, education and other areas.
