Belarus, Venezuela seen as political, economic partners, close friends

MINSK, 28 November (BelTA) - Belarus and Venezuela are not only political and economic partners but also close friends and allies, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Parkhomchik said at a plenary session of the Belarusian-Venezuelan joint commission on trade and economic cooperation on 28 November, BelTA has learned.

“On behalf of the Belarusian government and personally, I cordially welcome our Venezuelan friends on the Belarusian soil,” Piotr Parkhomchik said. “I know that many of you are familiar with our country. Despite the relatively short history of bilateral relations, Belarus and Venezuela have become not only political and economic partners, but also close friends and allies thanks to the ideas of our leaders Aleksandr Lukashenko and Hugo Chavez.”

In his words, today the meeting is taking place at a difficult time for both countries and the whole world. “The imposition of sanctions against our states could not but affect the implementation of many joint projects and initiatives. In this context, I cannot but recall the roadmap of bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Venezuela for the medium and long term, which was signed and agreed six years ago - on 28 November 2017,” the deputy prime minister said.

“Unfortunately, global events have made adjustments to the implementation of the outlined plans. Today our main task is to jointly return to the main road of strategic interaction between our brotherly states, despite all the obstacles and difficulties, and to realize the huge potential that exists in the relations between Belarus and Venezuela,” the deputy prime minister said.
