MINSK, 4 February (BelTA) - A decision to increase the number of border guards in Belarus is in sync with the national security objectives, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he approved the regulations on state border protection by the border service in 2019.
“Given the growing negative factors associated with illegal migration, drug trafficking, smuggling (especially weapons), the State Border Committee shall increase the number of personnel to the required level. This is an unprecedented step but national security comes first,” the head of state noted.
Alexander Lukashenko ordered to undertake comprehensive measures to increase the personnel numbers and set up new border units. “First of all, this is about the revival of maneuver units or strengthening them. These are the reserve forces that can be immediately deployed in case the situation aggravates,” he said.
