Belarus’ role in European transport system development highlighted

MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) – Belarus plays an important role in developing the transport system in Europe, BelTA learned from Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Board and CEO of the UAE logistics corporation DP World, on 4 May.

The foreign guest noted that he had arrived in Minsk for the sake of looking into ways to establish bilateral cooperation. In his opinion, Belarus is very appealing from the logistics point of view, including as a member of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said he had already talked to top officials of the Transport Ministry. “I would like to mention the high level of development of the transport and logistics system in Belarus. We’ve come to understand the importance of Belarus as part of the European transport system,” he stressed.

Belarus is a very beautiful and safe country, added the foreign guest.

The itinerary of the UAE delegation visit to Belarus is very intensive since the guests intend to take a close look at the operation of logistics hubs in Belarus. For Belarus DP World Corporation is a promising partner, which intends to implement long-term mutually beneficial projects.

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem was told that Belarus has well-developed modern infrastructure. It is necessary to develop Belarus’ logistics system due to global trends in international trade and the country’s integration into international freight traffic. The work to create and effectively use logistics infrastructure in Belarus in 2008-2015 has been carried out in line with the relevant government program. In the period 19 logistics hubs were established, with their total warehouse area exceeding 390,000m2. Over Br6.7 trillion was spent to implement the measures the program outlined. Over 5,000 jobs were created. Most of the logistics hubs in Belarus were created by raising foreign investments and by spending proprietary resources of the private sector. Seven logistics hubs are owned by the state or have a state-owned share in the charter capital.
