MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) – A summit of the Eurasian Economic Union is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 19 May. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said he is ready to organize the summit in any format but personally he believes that a face-to-face meeting is possible. The Belarusian head of state made the relevant statement during a videoconference meeting with Moldova President Igor Dodon on 4 May, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “As for the Eurasian Economic Union, I’ve talked to Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev today. They are consulting with the president of Russia now. I told him: I am at your disposal and things will be organized the way you say. I will organize the event. I am ready to welcome all of you on 19 May. I promise complete safety. I am convinced that you will be pleased to visit Belarus and will leave Minsk in good mood if, of course, the situation allows it.”
According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, he is not a greater admirer of videoconferences. “People are starting to laugh at us. If we want to seriously discuss things, we can gather here and talk face to face. We don’t have to drag along huge official delegations. One or two cameras, our personal cameramen, photographers to record the event will suffice but we could meet and talk here,” the president believes.
