VITEBSK, 2 November (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko prefers wearing footwear made by the local company Marko. Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev got interested in the brand, too, the Belarusian head of state said as he visited the Vitebsk fur factory on 2 November, BelTA has learned.
The head of state heard out a report on developing the Vitebsk fur factory, which is part of the holding company Marko. Alexander Lukashenko noted he wears Marko footwear. The boots he was wearing that day had been made by Marko, too. In his words, he likes the brand and the footwear has caught the eye of other heads of state, too.
“Even when I meet with other heads of state – they flaunt Italian brands and some other ones, [Nursultan] Nazarbayev asked me once where I had got my shoes. I told him: ‘In Belarus’. He said it can’t be right. I took the shoes off and showed him the Marko label then,” said Alexander Lukashenko.
“So we don’t need Italian or French brands,” added the president.
