MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) – Belarus is an important partner of China in building the Silk Road Economic Belt. The opinion was voiced by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Cui Qiming during the roundtable session held in Minsk on 10 September to highlight Belarus’ advantages and prospects in building the Silk Road Economic Belt, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat reminded that the initiative to build the Silk Road Economic Belt had been put forward by China President Xi Jinping. The initiative has received enthusiastic backing in China and abroad. “It is an important step on China’s part for bolstering reforms and openness, expanding ties with other nations, expanding the new industrialization model. The initiative will foster the development of the global economy and the exchange of experience between countries,” stressed the Ambassador of China to Belarus. “Mutually beneficial cooperation is what matters.”

Cui Qiming remarked that China has had a lot of consultations with countries located along the intended Silk Road in the last 12 months. Results of the consultations demonstrated the mutual interest of the sides in taking part in the project.

The Ambassador also drew attention to the importance of Belarus’ backing of the idea to build the new Silk Road. “Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has stated he supports the initiative of the Chinese leader and will assist with its implementation in every possible way. It is very important,” Cui Qiming was convinced.
