MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – New approaches are needed for analyzing unprecedented threats and challenges from the Euro-Atlantic direction from the point of view of managing these risks or, better yet, forestalling them. Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yuri Ambrazevich made the statement at a Belarusian-Russian expert meeting in Minsk on 21 June, BelTA has learned.

Yuri Ambrazevich said: “We can incessantly argue about the term ‘multivectorness’ and see obvious and hidden meanings and ideas in it. But the so-called collective West is not going away on its own, it is our neighbor. And today nobody knows in whose orbit this collective West will be in 10, 20, 30 years.”

Yuri Ambrazevich went on saying: “I hope for common sense of future European elites if not the current ones. This is why it seems to us that Europe will remain significant even with nearly all the institutional architecture of relations and security in Europe destroyed and with trends in favor of moving the center of gravity of world politics from Europe to Asia.”

Addressing the experts, Yuri Ambrazevich noted: “At the current stage one would like to see an analysis of unprecedented threats and risks from the Euro-Atlantic direction from the point of view of managing these risks or, better yet, forestalling them. New ideas and approaches are necessary.”

In his opinion, methods are needed for preserving communication and interaction with those in Western countries, who are returning to real life and are ready to think strategically.

Belarusian and Russian experts gathered at premises of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 21-22 June to discuss matters of current interest.
