MINSK, 24 September (BelTA) – Belarus’ initiative to restart the Helsinki process is getting increasing support in the international community, Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko said at the 4th Meeting of Speakers of the Eurasian Countries' Parliaments in Nur-Sultan on 24 September, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.
The ongoing meeting is dedicated to the issues that concern people the most: peace, security, unobstructed development, freedom from obsolete doctrines and misleading stereotypes. The speaker underlined that the only way to avert the worst scenarios is to sit down at the negotiating table. Vladimir Andreichenko believes that it is important to hear the voice of those states that do not have global ambitions and therefore are able and willing to help build a new architecture of international relations based on good neighborliness, equality, mutual trust and economic cooperation. “This thesis is at the heart of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko’s initiative to restart the Helsinki process and this initiative is getting more and more support in the international community,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.
He expressed confidence that the best guarantees for security and peace are strong economic ties, intensive exchange of knowledge, technology and inter-cultural communication. “The task of MPs is not just to take note of ongoing developments, but also to help establish new economic relations and to make sure that this process is more predictable and mutually beneficial, is in compliance with national interests and makes a meaningful contribution to improving the quality of life of all people around the world,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.
“Constructive cooperation in economy allows removing political borders, ideological clichés and myths, thus making a real contribution to strengthening mutual trust and security and to resolving international conflicts,” he added.
Belarus is committed to this position and actively promotes it in the international community. “Thanks to the rigorous implementation of its international commitments, peace initiatives and strong reputation as a regional security donor, Minsk is turning into a venue to discuss the most sensitive issues on the international agenda,” the speaker noted.
Another such event was the recent international high-level conference “Countering terrorism through innovative approaches and the use of new and emerging technologies” held in the capital of Belarus under the auspices of the UN. During this forum, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko launched a new initiative: to develop a digital neighborhood belt. It is about the conclusion of interstate and other agreements on information security based on the ideas of digital sovereignty and neutrality, guaranteeing non-interference of countries in each other's information resources, the speaker recalled and expressed hope that the initiative would receive the support of the participants of the meeting.
Hosting such a big forum in Nur-Sultan is another indication of Kazakhstan's determination to find solutions to the most difficult issues of international politics on the basis of equality, dialogue and trust, Vladimir Andreichenko added.
Prior to the event, Vladimir Andreichenko held a meeting with Chairperson of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Dariga Nazarbayeva. The parties discussed inter-parliamentary ties, cooperation in environment, trade, economy, digital agenda, and culture. The Belarusian speaker congratulated Dariga Nazarbayeva on her election as chairperson of the Senate and invited her to visit Belarus.
As BelTA reported earlier, Vladimir Andreichenko is taking part in the 4th Meeting of Speakers of the Eurasian Countries' Parliaments dedicated to the topic “Greater Eurasia: Dialogue. Trust. Partnership” in Nur-Sultan on 23-24 September. Parliaments of 59 countries (including 47 at the level of speakers and vice speakers) and 13 international and interparliamentary organizations have confirmed their participation in the meeting. The event is designed to open a direct multilateral dialogue between legislatures of European and Asian countries and international and interparliamentary organizations in order to ensure effective cooperation in Eurasia.
