Belarus in favor of setting up “belt of digital neighborliness”

Belarus in favor of setting up “belt of digital neighborliness”

MINSK, 3 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko put forward an initiative to set up “a belt of digital neighborliness” at the international counterterrorism conference in Minks on 3 September, BelTA has learned.

“For more than 20 years Belarus has been enhancing friendly relations with neighboring countries as part of the initiative aimed at strengthening the belt of good neighborliness which proved very effective. Probably, now we can use this model as an example for setting up a belt of digital neighborliness,” the head of state said.

In his words, this can be done with the help of interstate and other agreements on information security. “In our opinion, the ideas of digital sovereignty and neutrality which will, first of all, guarantee noninterference of countries in the information resources of each other could be the key elements of such agreements,” the Belarusian leader said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that as many countries as possible should be engaged in the system of ensuring information security. “I would be happy if today we could launch a wave of digital security from Minsk to enhance ties between countries, raise the efficiency of joint counterterrorism and other threats in cyberspace,” the president said.
