MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) - Over the years of diplomatic relations, Belarus and China have become reliable partners and allies in protecting the diversity of development, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Xie Xiaoyong said at the roundtable to discuss “A unique path to success for all: China's Global Civilization Initiative” on 27 April, BelTA has learned.

"China and Belarus are reliable allies in protecting the diversity of development, promoting exchange and cooperation between different countries," the diplomat said. “Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, in his speeches at various events and in his Address to the Belarusian people and the National Assembly, emphasizes the need to protect the historical memory, expresses the opinion that national cultures and traditions cannot be adjusted to a single standard, and that the world is beautiful in its diversity. This position is very much in tune with President Xi Jinping's Global Civilization Initiative and has the same goal."

"Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 31 years ago, no matter the changes in the international situation, China and Belarus have always maintained friendly relations and promoted exchanges," Ambassador Xie Xiaoyong continued. "The exchange of students between the two countries has increased significantly: at the start of diplomatic relations, those were isolated cases. Today more than 7,000 Chinese students study in Belarus, and hundreds of Belarusian students study in China."

The ambassador also recalled that both countries have established cultural centers in each other's capitals. "There are six Confucius Institutes and two Confucius classes established by China in Belarus. China and Belarus jointly held such humanitarian exchange events as the Year of Tourism, the Year of Education, the Merry Spring Festival, Culture Days, Cinema Weeks, photo exhibitions, seminars, art exhibitions, which strengthen mutual understanding and traditional friendship between the two peoples.

Ambassador Xie Xiaoyong also noted: "During Aleksandr Lukashenko's state visit to Beijing, the heads of two states adopted the joint statement of the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Belarus on the further development of all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries in the new era. The document clearly states that Belarus supports the common values of humanity proposed by China such as peace, development, equality, justice, democracy and freedom. Both sides are ready to further strengthen humanitarian exchange and expand cooperation in the field of culture, tourism, sport, cinema and television. This has set the course for further strengthening China-Belarus humanitarian cooperation and exchanges."

"Chinese President Xi Jinping said, ‘A single flower does not make spring, while one hundred flowers in full blossom bring spring to the garden.' China is willing, together with the international community, including Belarus, to stand firmly on the side of progress, make joint efforts to implement the Global Civilization Initiative, and promote common values," the Chinese ambassador to Belarus said.

In his opinion, it is very important to "bring together the peoples of all countries of the world to ensure that the garden of world civilizations is full of colors and vitality, and that the future of the community of common destiny for mankind is bright."
