MINSK, 28 September (BelTA) – On the occasion of the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Andrei Dapkiunas urged the global community to step up efforts to push for the total ban on nuclear testing, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The Belarusian diplomat expressed extensive support for international efforts in the field of nuclear nonproliferation and disarmament and called for more efforts to push for the total ban on nuclear testing,” the ministry informed.

During the High-Level Week at the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York Andrei Dapkiunas took part in a ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement member states. The event was dedicated to capacity building of the UN Charter in the context of goals and principles of the Non-Aligned Movement.

“The deputy minister presented Belarus’ vision of how to overcome the global crisis in conflict resolution and urged to join efforts for international peace and security based on the goals and principles of the UN Charter. A joint political declaration was adopted following the meeting,” the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed.

A documentary photo exhibition “Interpreters on Mission: Contributing to Peace” opened at the UN Headquarters on the occasion of the International Translation Day that is marked on 30 September. The resolution declaring 30 September as International Translation Day was passed by the United Nations General Assembly in May 2017 upon the initiative of Belarus and Azerbaijan.

The photo exhibition was arranged by Belarus, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. At the opening ceremony Andrei Dapkiunas said: “The exhibition demonstrates the work of interpreters during peace missions and is part of Belarus’ efforts to strengthen legal and physical protection of interpreters working in dangerous conditions,” the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed.
