MINSK, 16 January (BelTA) – Georgia is looking forward to Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko’s visit this year. The country hopes that the visit will add a new impetus to the bilateral relations, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Belarus Valeri Kvaratskhelia told the media after a ceremony to present the credentials to the Belarusian head of state on 16 January, BelTA has learned.
“We are carefully preparing for Alexander Lukashenko’s visit. We hope that the visit will be successful and give a new impetus to the Belarusian-Georgian ties,” the diplomat said.
In his words, the bilateral contacts have been steadily gaining momentum in recent years. Valeri Kvaratskhelia named trade and tourism as the most promising areas. He added that the exchange of experience in other sectors is important as well. “There are a lot of things we can learn from Belarus, including in agriculture and mechanical engineering,” the diplomat said.
In his words, in late January Belarus will host a meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission. The Georgian delegation will be headed by the first vice premier.
