MINSK, 16 January (BelTA) – Belarus’ MAZ-SPORTavto crew of Vladimir Vasilevsky who used to perform the role of a maintenance crew finished the twelfth leg of the 2016 Dakar Rally in 25th position, BelTA learned from Alfa Bank (Belarus), a partner of Belarus’ team.
Vladimir Vasilevsky decided to change his strategy since now he is the only Belarusian driver in the race. He used to take care of the technical and mechanical status of two other trucks of the Belarusian team, and now he is after a result.
Vladimir Vasilevsky and his crew encountered no technical issues and cleared the stage in 3h51m, some 37m behind Dutchman Peter Versluis who took the stage win. The Belarusians currently sit in 26th place overall losing 17h42m to the leader Gerard de Rooy.
The 2016 Dakar Rally is running across the mountains and deserts of Argentina and Bolivia. It kicked off on 3 January and will finish on 16 January. The last stage of the rally will bring the racers back to Rosario from where they started.
