BREST, 20 November (BelTA) – The Union State student sport competitions are kicking off in Brest, head of the sports and tourism sector of the Brest City Hall Olesya Okrug told BelTA.
The competitions will be held through 25 November. Taking part in them will be 222 students from nine Belarusian universities (in Minsk, Brest, Grodno, Gomel and Baranovichi) and from 11 universities of Russia (in Moscow, Chelyabinsk, Rostov-on-Don, Omsk, Cheboksary, Kazan, Orel, Ufa, Belgorod and Khanty-Mansiysk.
Participants will compete in swimming, mini-football and volleyball. Competitions will be held at the Palace of Water Sports, the sports center Viktoria and the sports complex Olympus. The final competitions will be held on 24 November. The entrance is free.
“Last time Brest hosted the Union State competitions was in 2012. Today, we are hosting the strongest athletes from 20 universities of Belarus and Russia. I would like to note that many of these young men and women are candidates and masters of sports,” Olesya Okrug said. She added that today the youth is expected to visit the Brest Fortress and lay flowers at the Eternal Flame.
The Union State representatives will have a chance to learn more about the city which will turn 1,000 in 2019.
