MINSK, 24 May (BelTA) - A concert in tribute to the bicentenary anniversary of the birth of Belarusian and Polish composer Stanislaw Moniuszko was held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in France.
The event was attended by UNESCO officials, representatives of the diplomatic corps and of the Belarusian Diaspora in France. The concert was organized by the Permanent Mission of Belarus to UNESCO, in cooperation with the permanent missions of Poland and Romania. Ambassador of Belarus to France Igor Fisenko highlighted Stanislaw Moniuszko's great contribution to the creation of the Belarusian national opera, close connection of his works to Belarusian folklore and national musical traditions. The diplomat also noted that the composer played a big role in the development of musical culture of the whole region. His art unites Belarus, Poland and Lithuania.
Several more concerts will be held in the Ile-de-France region.
2019 was announced the Year of Stanislaw Moniuszko at the 39th session of the UNESCO General Conference. The bicentenary of his birth was included into the UNESCO Anniversaries List.
