Stamp to mark BSSR centennial dedicated in Minsk

MINSK, 2 January (BelTA) – A first-day-of-issue stamp dedication ceremony to mark 100 Years of the BSSR was held in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

The postage stamp was released by the Communications and Informatization Ministry. It was printed in the Nepogodin Bobruisk Integrated Printing Works. Design is by Yelena Medved. The circulation is 60,000 copies.

The ceremony was attended by Communications and Informatization Minister Konstantin Shulgan and Academician-Secretary of the Department of Humanitarian Sciences and Arts of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Alexander Kovalenya. “The establishment of the Byelorussian Soviet Social Republic (BSSR) was an important event in the life of the country which will always be remembered. The fact that the 100th anniversary of the BSSR is commemorated in the form of a postage stamp is very important,” Konstantin Shulgan said.

“100 years is a moment in history but during this time the Belarusians achieved a lot. We, our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers did everything to help Belarus flourish,” Alexander Kovalenya noted.

1 January 2019 marks 100 years since the proclamation of the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic. The interim workers' and peasants' Soviet government of Byelorussia was finally formed on this day and its manifesto announced. The manifesto proclaimed Belarus free and independent Socialist republic, formalized the main provisions of its social and political order. Soon afterwards the interim workers' and peasants' Soviet government of Byelorussia and the Central Bureau of the Communist Party of Byelorussia moved from Smolensk to Minsk.
