Stadler Minsk double-deckers enter service in Moscow

MOSCOW, 27 October (BelTA) – The first next-generation double-deck electric train manufactured by the joint Belarusian-Swiss train factory Stadler Minsk made the first journey in Moscow from Kiev Railway Station to Vnukovo Airport on 27 October, BelTA has learned from the press service of the Belarusian embassy in Russia.

The double-deck train was manufactured for Russia’s Aeroexpress company providing intermodal passenger transportation services. The company plans to launch a double-deck train service between Paveletsky Railway Station and Domodedovo Airport.

“Aeroexpress is updating its rolling stock in the run-up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup due in several Russian cities. We believe that Moscow residents and guests will appreciate all the technological innovations implemented in the concept of the train,” Russian Transport Minister Maksim Sokolov said at the launch ceremony. He underlined that the first double-deck train has been called Eurasia. All in all, Aeroexpress bought 11 trains from Stadler Minsk.

“In 2016, Stadler Minsk's export performance was better than that of any other similar company affiliated with the Swiss Stadler,” Matthias Stoehr, Stadler’s Sales Director for the CIS countries, told the media. “Today it sells both into the CIS and some EU member states,” he added.

Belarusian-made trains are tailored to the climate conditions of Russia where the temperatures may vary from -15°C to +40°C. With a maximum speed of up to 160 km/h, four-car trains have 396 seats, six-car trains – 700 (including 84 in business class).
