MINSK, 8 November (BelTA) – A solemn launch ceremony of the tenth Belarusian Antarctic expedition will take place in the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus today, the press service of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus told BelTA.
Participants of Belarusian Antarctic expeditions will meet with members of the general public at the History Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) at 17:00. A lecture to review ten years of Belarus’ presence in Antarctica will be arranged. Anyone is welcome to attend. Visitors will be able to say a few words in person to the Belarusian polar explorers before they leave Belarus for Antarctica.
The lecture will review the history of Belarusian Antarctic expeditions and the contribution of Belarusian scientists to South Pole exploration. International cooperation will be touched upon as well as the construction of the Belarusian Antarctic station. Results achieved by Belarusian specialists will be summed up and future prospects will be outlined.
A film describing the work of the ninth Belarusian Antarctic expedition will focus on the modern state of affairs with regard to Antarctica exploration. Unique photos of Antarctic nature and of the daily life of Belarusian polar explorers will be presented. Visitors will be able to get first-hand information about such matters as atmospheric physics, biology, ecology, problems of global climate changes, geophysics, geology, critical services and logistics of polar expeditions.
The event has been organized by the Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the public organization Youth Education Center Fialta.
